Вот отчет о прошлогодних разработках, тут и снижения порога вхождения, в том числе путём использования линуксовых драйверов, и smbfs, и libfuse. Тут и значительные улучшения самого ядра, подсистемы памяти. И портирование полезных программ и библиотек, libpcap. Теперь можно будет запускать wireshark!

Душно, жарко… я поэтому даже не очень-то и проснулся.
Прихожу в рабство, включаю компьютер. И тут вместо ОС загружается GNU Hurd!
Я взял листочек, начал писать начальству заявление… А что писать?
Ночью мой компьютер был кем-то приведен в неработоспособное состояние путём установки GNU Hurd? Чушь какая-то…
Только потом я догадался, что это только CD.

It's a fresh QEMU image of GNU (aka. GNU/Hurd), the extensible operating system designed to liberate users from the tyranny of sysadmins, professional kernel hackers, and other restrictions to Freedom #1.
The image is continuously cross-built from GNU/Linux, using the Nix package manager, off the VCS of GNU Mach, the Hurd, Coreutils, grep, and Guile 2.0.x. It also contains snapshots of other programs, such as Zile, GCC, and GNU Make.
The intent is (1) to allow integration testing of Mach, the Hurd, and the C library, and (2) to allow other GNU packages to be tested on GNU/Hurd in a virtual machine.

There are rumors that Duke Nukem Forever will actually be released in
Apr^WMa^WJune 2011, so there's no escape for the Hurd any more, we had
to finish and release. There has been considerable progress lately,
so it is with great pleasure that the Hurd maintainers team decided
to release version 0.401 of the GNU/Hurd Operating System. As the
version number and image size suggest, this is only a small preview
of course, but we expect GNU/Hurd to be of production-quality within
the third millenium, to be sure.
A LiveCD demo is available on
people.debian.org
and can be trivially tried using
qemu -cdrom hurd-0.401.iso

В archhurd есть gnugo (игра, не язык), всё, прыщеблядикс не нужен :3
нет поддержки моего вайфайя, да и не будет — у меня карта юсб, а юсб он не умеет. Не очень ня :(

ребята решили сделать арчеподобный дистр на GNU Hurd — archhurd.org Пока ничего рабочего нет, но начинание интересное.
